I heard that it rose to about 1.36/ gallon
thats $3.22 in today's dollar.
does anyone one know what was the cost.
thank youWhat caused the high oil prices of the early 1980 to rise?
I think it was political and speculative effects in general. Oligopoly's pressure has also some effect.

About the price of oil and demos say your sorry?
for months i rember hearing demo blast bush for the price of oil being so high it had to be his fault now that its gone from 147 a barrel to under 80 a barrel where are they all at thanking him.or maybe they figured it out that he had nothing to do with it to start with .but i feel they owe him a big im sorry dont youAbout the price of oil and demos say your sorry?
Your absolutely right. We should be thanking him for focusing all of his attention on foreign affairs while the nation falls apart. Oil prices fell because nobody could afford it. Less demand lower prices. More demand higher prices. Pretty hard concept to grasp I know.
Why did demand fall. Hmmm. Could it be that our financial sector is busted? Nah that couldn't be it.
So to placate you. Thank you President Bush. For allowing our economy to tank under your watch just to bring down the price per barrel.
Happy now?About the price of oil and demos say your sorry?
no he doesn't deserve an apology, when gas prices were high he could have taken steps to help our country, but he is an oil man so as long as those companies were making money so was he, i think he owes the whole country an apology for all the time he spent in office making stupid decisions.
Who is Commander-in-Chief, and who ordered troops into Iraq to destabalize the Middle East?
The oil prices are going down, because speculators are gettig scared that our economy is collapsing.
yeah ok Thanks George for helping our economy collapse!

Would oil price spike if Israel and US have a naval blockade on Iran ?
'; Report: Israeli PM Calls for Naval Blockade Against Iran';
';The report says Mr. Olmert told Pelosi that the present economic sanctions on Iran have exhausted themselves, and that aggressive action could be taken that is not violent.';

Not topical.
Current Events and such go elsewhere.
...Unless you can find a price of oil passage in the Old Testament...Would oil price spike if Israel and US have a naval blockade on Iran ?

I agree this should not be under Religion %26amp; Spirituality.
Oil costs would skyrocket if Iran's oil ports were blockaded. The cost to the industrialized world would be far greater than any political costs to Iran's leadership.
Just the report yesterday in the Jerusalem Post about imminent US military raids against Iran might be enough to cause both oil to increase in cost and for the dollar to sink even lower.
I do not think most Americans fully understand how much the dollar has weakened in the past three years. Not good when fighting a losing war costing $5,000 a second with no end in sight.
The real culprit in the staggering gas prices is the value of the American dollar. If it cost $50.00 a barrel a year ago and the dollar is worth half that now on the foreign exchange, then we need 100 to pay for the same amount we did the year before. The same goes for all goods and services. Did you know that the economic stimulus package that will give us supposed tax refunds any minute now is not backed by the US treasury? No, they just printed more money for the occasion. This of course in the long run will make the situation worse, so get ready to pay more for everything!
It'll spike if a camel farts in the Middle East and Wall Street gets wind of it. As far as Iran's oil, they sell it to China and N. Korea, we don't get any of their oil anyway. But if there is trouble in the Persian Gulf you can guarantee gas will be $6 a gallon.
I doubt any increased military action by us in the Middle East will be good for oil prices, if that's what you mean.
Of course, as it's the Israeli PM calling for it, Israel is free to try it on their own...
If Israel participated in a naval blockade of Iran, a major war would breakout, never mind the price spike.
It will spike if nothing happens.

What is the best way to track oil prices through a stock? Would it be Xom? (EXXON) or what would it be?
I am in a business class and i need to invest in a stock that is directly related to gas prices/oil prices. Which stock should i choose? What is the best way to track oil prices through a stock? Would it be Xom? (EXXON) or what would it be?
To answer your question,
You can buy USO which tracks directly (very very close) to the price of crude oil. It trades like a stock, but like GLD (at 1/10 of price) and SLV, it's valued at a ratio to the actual commodity.
Else, if you rather track a sector, you could choose OIS (oil services) or OIH (Oil holders), etc. to be in tune with the prices of oil related firms.
For more info on these you can go to amex.com or holders.com.
As for XOM, that's just one company and although approx 73% of the stock price will move in tune with the market and sector, XOM's stock price can still fluctuate with some volatility related specifically to the company (e.g. can someone say backdating of options) and not related to the the price of oil), so that's why I recommended the other items for what you had asked.
Hope that helps! What is the best way to track oil prices through a stock? Would it be Xom? (EXXON) or what would it be?
try the drillers and know that they are ahead of the price
I've found that APA tracks it pretty well. But the oil sector index is a good one too.
XOM is a good oil stock - the oil indexes are XOI %26amp; OIX is you want to follow vs XOM
oil stocks have been selling off
Try symbol USO.......
Better invest on a related index, like SP Energy sector index.
There is not a direct connection. Stock price is based on value of the company who issued the stock. Oil prices are based on assorted market forces. The major oil companies have many types of products and services, besides drilling and refining oil. It is possible for oil prices to go up and stock value of an individual company go down.
For an oil stock play, try XLE, an oil SPDR. It tracks the big oil and energy SP 500 companies.
The only ';stock'; that directly tracks (or is supposed to track) is USO - the oil ETF.
CRB index or OIL EFT

Funny, how just the mention of us drilling for oil has helped the price come down.?
1) Do you think the push for more exploration will last past the election, or is it just lip service?
2) Will we be placated if gas prices come down again and forget about all this energy talk?Funny, how just the mention of us drilling for oil has helped the price come down.?
Well, it's not just drilling, we are also talking about using other resources to power our vehicles, namely Natural Gas, which can with little modification actually help replace a bulk of our existing vehicles fuel. CNG conversions are very feasible.
And actually being done in countries like Iran.Funny, how just the mention of us drilling for oil has helped the price come down.?
Dude, you are so wrong! Oil is a commodity, it's price is a matter of supply and demand. As demand decreases (like it did when prices were high and people were not driving as much) supply increases and prices come down. ';Mentions'; of anything do not set prices. Imagine how much gas prices would come down if we all drove more fuel efficient cars.
The Alaskan pipeline was in the works before this election, it will continue afterwards, that's natural gas, not oil...and it's just the start
I also noticed that the price of gas is coming down...We're down about 30 cents a gallon in less than 3 weeks :)
EDIT: @Teener: $3.70 here today in Northern Kentucky...Was $4.00 and over
Started going back up today.
1. No it will be explored be whichever party wins.
2. No, we can't ignore the problem. We have to explore alternative energies and we have to do it now. We cannot keep depending on the middle east for oil. Heck we can't keep depending on oil alone.
Down 30 cents a gallon in 3 weeks? Geez lucky you. I'm still paying 3.81.
It is just the age old fact that long term price elasticity is larger than short term price elasticity. People substitute away from oil, the people who put prices high get nervous, and so on.
Yes, and funny how Chris Matthews fails to see a connection but somehow connected Palin's speech with a drop in the stock market.
1. Yes, but it takes years to get oil out of prospective wells.
2. No, because they'll still be too high.

Will bombing Iran start WW3 and cause oil prices to more than double?
WW III has already started. If Iran is bombed it will be just another chapter in the war to end all wars. Will bombing Iran start WW3 and cause oil prices to more than double?
World War 3 started n the wars based on lies from Bush and Cheney, now Bush has forged alliances among nations that might have thought twice about it,. Through all this Russia, China and a few other countries have watched the USA go from top dog to barely alive, in the world. Bush has destroyed our standing, our military, our middle class, our Constitution, he has angered Russia and China constantly, now we will see who is going to survive, bets are its not the Late Great USA. Will bombing Iran start WW3 and cause oil prices to more than double?
If Israel bombs Iran, that specific action itself won't raise prices (in my opinion) but how the rest of the middle east and the US reacts potentially could have a HUGE impact on it. Worst case scenario - embargo and WWIII. All depends on who Israel votes in as their new prime minister.
Y would we wanna start a WW3 by bombing Iran? Even if we did start one theres no chance we could win. Our military power has dropped insainly thanks to the Iraq invasion. Which has lasted a couple years and as u can see has caused many problems that could lead to WW3. Maybe oil prices will go up as if their not high enough
aMERICAN MILITARY POWER IS BASED IN MICROCHIPS AND INFORMATION. THE US MILITARY IS AT LEAST 40 YEARS AHEAD OF THE REST OF THE WORLD TECH WISE (EXCEPT ENGLAND SINCE WE ARE VIRTUALLY AN ANGLO EMPIRE WITH THEM. ALL U NEW GENERATION OF WORLD CITIZENS NEED TO REALIZE AMERICA IS STILL THE BEST CHANCE THE WORLD HAS FOR PEACE. ALL HER PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY US, THE AMERICAN CITIZEN. STOP VOTING FOR THESE CFR PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEES. i THINK NO ONE SHOULD VOTE IN THIS NEXT ELECTION. IF WE CAN NOT GET CREDIBLE NOMINEES THEN WE SHOULDN'T VOTE WHAT A MESSAGE THAT WOULD SEND TO THE WORLD. THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE RIGHT HAND PATH FOR A FREE AMERICA.
I just don't understand why McCain wants to go to war with Iran. His whole method and the way he is thinking is crazy. I would say that yes it might start ';WW3'; but who knows.
Maybe, then again, maybe it wouldn't start a world war, just one between the US and Israel.
Agreeing with the poster above. GIVE THE WORLD A BREAK. No-one else seems to start wars
Maybe not WW3 but certainly a major worldwide economic depression.
WW3 won't start with Iran. An attack on Israel is where it will all begin.
Why the belligerent American's always talk about wars? Give the world a break.
why would you bomb Iran
and who will dare to bomb Iran??
