The price of oil will take care of that on its own. Venezuela has very poor quality crude, which is very expensive to refine. They have a cost structure higher than any other OPEC nation. They are also extremely inefficient, and have a crumbling infrastructure. The low levels of current crude prices will finish off the Bolivar Revolution.
Iran has a declining reserve base, a crumbling infrastructure and are also extremely inefficient. The mullah's know they need oil revenues, and with China and India now slowing, they have to make nice with the US.
The price of oil is both Venezuela and Iran's worst enemy. They are the brink of economic catastrophe, and have no power to improve a declining economy, without crude prices increasing. Can we use falling oil prices against our enemies?
Global demand is high enough that all of the oils extracted are of value and in demand. The low prices will impact Iran and Venezuela negatively in the short term, but only that. The price ppb (price per barrel) will inch back up quickly as global uncertainty eases in 2009.
we iranians love falling oil prices. do u know why? iran as u said depends on oil, so they don't care scientific projects. i, myself pay my projects all the money my parents send. so if it happens they have to open account for universities (just like USA, japan n ...) n pay for efficient projects. some of iranians always pray that our oil finishes. it's a dramatic truth for us.
Yes. We can conserve energy and drive much more efficient vehicles and develop alternative Energy. This would serve to keep demand down and accomplish such goals as you state.
Being Green is highly American, my friends...
You mean like, by so totally bankrupting the economy that nobody can afford to buy fuel, can we hurt them enough to make it worth it?
No.
We just need to start charging them $147 a bushel for wheat and corn.
Or can they use the current RISING oil prices against us......
